Costa Rica is truly a birder's and nature lover's paradise. With elevations ranging from sea level to 3810 meters (12,500 feet) and twelve distinct ecological zones, the country hosts an astonishingly abundant diversity of flora and fauna.
Its privileged situation in the globe, between North and South American biogeograhic realms, Costa Rica acts as a continuous corridor for migration and the meeting ground for a seemingly unimaginable biodiversity. Costa Rica, no bigger than the state of West Virginia, is home to approximately 5 percent of the earth's known species. More than 850 species of birds have been recorded on the Costa Rican mainland, including roughly 600 species of permanent residents. The country also boasts 350 species of reptiles and amphibians (including six different species of sea turtles that nest on Costa Rican beaches), four species of monkeys, 8000 species of higher plants, and more species of butterflies than in all of Africa.
The following trips are itineraries running year long. They provide a close look at nature while enjoying a nice vacation at a real affordable value. Birdwatching tours are scheduled and can also be customized. Our birding tours are specially designed to take full advantage of your time in the country. We star early in the morning and include some outings at night for owling. The extra effort is there to find those always-exciting rare species. We have carefully selected the best combinations of birding locations to ensure the largest variety and number of species possible. A single day of bird-watching in Costa Rica can offer sighting of up to 85 to 150 different species. Most Important: The quality of the birding experience depends entirely on two basic aspects: the expertise and capabilities of your guide and the group size. Our birdwatching tours do not exceed 6 participants, unless otherwise requested by a group. Our guides are not people who visit a region just a couple times a year. Our guides, besides professionals, are local experts with vast experience birding in Costa Rica.
