Hidden in the jungle of remote Piedras Blancas National Park in southern Costa Rica, Esquinas Rainforest Lodge is surrounded by thousands of acres of untouched wilderness. It is a retreat for nature lovers wishing to experience the sounds and sights of a tropical rainforest in a tranquil, undisturbed atmosphere.
We are located near the village of La Gamba, only three miles off the Interamerican Highway and a 30-minute drive from Golfito airport. Esquinas is part of a model project combining conservation , research and community development . We offer a large variety of tours and excursions that lead through a jungle with a biodiversity equal to nearby Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park. Esquinas has been awarded a "three-leaf" Certificate for Sustainable Tourism from the Costa Rican Tourism Board ICT.

This well-managed eco-lodge is run by an Austrian who has tried to instill a sense of Teutonic order. (More than 80 percent of the guests here are from Germany and Austria.) But the tidy gravel paths winding past wooden cabins in manicured gardens are being encroached upon by wild forest, with the garden looking wilder every year. Rooms have tile floors, good reading lamps, and airy bathrooms with plenty of hot water. A spring-fed pool is delightful, and the candlelit dining room serves excellent food. Fragrant white ginger and ylang-ylang encircle a pond with resident caimans. Thrilling trails head to the waterfalls and primary forest of Piedras Blancas Park. Local guides lead river walks and bird-watching tours. If you have 4WD, you can get here by following the dirt road from Golfito through the heart of Piedras Blancas National Park. In the dry season when it's passable, this back route can cut miles off a trip from the north, and it passes through some gorgeous wilderness.
