Hotel Britannia
Britannia Hotel´s services the best of lodging and tours to Costa Rica. Britannia's convenient spot is well known for getting out the best of your romantic, adventure, natural or relaxation trip to Costa Rica. Hotel Britannia, absolutely the best location in downtown San José, Costa Rica.
The Britannia Hotel - situated in a Victorian area, has been declared a national heritage house.
The hotel features high ceilings, original colonial brick walls, classic arches, and an old wine cellar which is now our restaurant. Mosaic floors with vintage designs and English style furniture, all contrast with the tropical gardens "a la tica". Frommers.com Review This is arguably the most luxurious of the many small hotels that have been created from restored old houses in downtown San José. Built in 1910, the large, low building, with its wraparound veranda, is certainly one of the most attractive in the neighborhood. However, the neighborhood has gone very downhill of late, and is pretty much now an annex to the city's red-light district. In the lobby, tile floors, large stained-glass picture windows, a brass chandelier, and reproduction Victorian decor all help set a tone of tropical luxury. Along with restoring the old home, the owners have built a four-story addition, which is separated from the original building by a narrow atrium. Rooms in the original home have hardwood floors and furniture; high ceilings and fans help keep them cool. In the deluxe rooms and junior suites, you get air-conditioning, one king or two queen-size beds, and a hair dryer in the bathroom. The standards come with either one king or two twin beds. Although the streetside rooms have double glass, light sleepers will still want to avoid them. The quietest rooms are those toward the back of the addition. In what was once the wine cellar, you'll find a casual restaurant. The buffet breakfast, along with afternoon tea and happy-hour drinks, is served in the adjacent sky-lit room.
