Extension to Nicaragua 
(4 days / 3 nights) :

Already in Guanacaste province, take an extension to visit our northern neighbor country Nicaragua .  Visit San Juan del Sur, located on a stunning horseshoe-shaped cove, where hiking, fishing, biking, surfing and sunset sailing are just some of the attractions.  Also, visit the city of Granada whose charming colonial style buildings bring a cozy ambience of remote times.  The city´s historic avenues bring you to the impressive cathedral, the colorful market and the Convento de San Francisco , which was built in 1529.   Travel to the shores of Lake Nicaragua where a ferry will bring you to Ometepe Island .  This unspoiled island paradise formed out of the lave flowing in between two volcanoes, Maderas (1394m) and Concepcion (1610m), is a nature lover´s dream with abundant wildlife. 

Day 1. to Nicaragua . From Guanacaste leave early to the northern bordering country of Nicaragua .  After crossing borders and doing some paperwork continue to Granada and accommodate in your hotel.  Go for a horse-drawn carriage tour in Granada to enjoy this beautiful city.

Day 2. Masaya Volcano and town (B, L)   Go for a day tour to Masaya´s active volcano and national park, later visit Masaya´s handicraft market where you can enjoy the creativity and variety of Nicaraguan art at bargain prices. In the afternoon go to San Juan de Oriente, famous for its ceramic arts. 

Day 3. Lake Nicaragua and Islands (B, L)   Be ready today to go to San Jorge to take the ferry to Ometepe Island .  Free afternoon at your leisure for optional activities. 

Day 4.  crossing borders: (B)   Leave Granada to go back to Costa Rica .  Border crossing and then continue to your next destination.
