The hotel is situated along the  border between the Tropical and Dry Pacific eco-systems. This unique situation allows our guests to benefit twofold, allowing them to observe over 400 species of birds as well as exotic animals, such as the poison dart frog, deer, jaguar, wild pigs, bats, raccoons, anteaters, lizards and several types of monkeys (spider monkey and congo) and other jungle creatures. All of this at a mere 90 minutes away (by road) from San José and the Juan Santamaría International Airport!
The Villa Lapas purpose is that of offering a vacation destination that offers both foreign and national tourists a wide scope of Costa Rica's major environmental attractions, while being strategically near some of the most colorful, bustling beaches, national parks and picturesque towns of the country just minutes away. We are 45 miles (80 kms) away from San José, Costa Rica's capitol city, and a mere 38 miles (60 kms) from the Juan Santamaría Internacional Airport. We feature easy access from many other points within the country.

Within a tranquil rain-forest preserve, far from other hotels (and the beach), Villa Lapas is a great escape for nature lovers, but also has on-site entertainment to keep you busy, such as a large-screen television, a pool table, and foosball. Cross a suspension bridge to a small replica of a Costa Rican colonial village with a restaurant, cantina, church, and gift shops. Follow the river flowing through the protected forest for a pleasant hike. For the adventurous, there is a canopy tour on the property. The austere rooms are nothing special, but have terra-cotta floors, hardwood ceilings, and large baths. An all-inclusive meal plan is available.
