While hiking you may spot such fauna as white faced monkeys, iguanas, short nosed coatis, toucans and brilliant scarlet macaws, announcing their arrival with awesome high pitched calls.
Later, relax on beautiful, pristine beaches set between the lush tropical forest on one side and the spectacular Pacific ocean on the other. Observe the white sand being washed by the crystal clear water or just go for a refreshing swim in the warm tropical ocean.
Fodor's Review:
This 740-acre private reserve and resort community is an odd and overwhelming mix of nature, residential development, and vacation spot. Punta Leona's attractions include three beaches, a tropical forest, a butterfly farm, and guided bird-watching hikes. Punta Leona (Lion's Point) made headlines as the setting of the Ridley Scott film 1492: Conquest of Paradise and more recently for blocking public access to its beaches, which is illegal in Costa Rica. The little "city" contains everything from restaurants and pools to a grocery store and church, plus plenty of amusements, including a zip-line tour, tennis court, and mini-golf course. Frequent shuttles travel between the rooms, restaurants, and beaches. Hotel guests, homeowners, and time-share members contribute to crowded beaches on weekends, especially in the dry season, when this place can be a bit of a zoo.
