DETAILED DESCRIPTION

SCHOOL TRIP COSTA RICA Day 1. Arrive in San Jose. Meet and greet at the international airport. Meet your guide who will bring you to your hotel in San Jose and will welcome you to our country. A short briefing regarding an overview of the trip with a nice introduction to the country will be held today.
Day 2. Two volcanoes in one day (B, L, D) Breakfast and then leave to the northern mountains to the cloud forest and visit Poas Volcano national park. With a diameter of 1.5Km, the active crater of Poas is reportedly the widest of any in the world. Another feature of interest here is the cloud forest environment with highland birds not seen in other regions of the country. After lunch continue to Arenal Volcano area, along the way marvelous landscapes. Arrival in Arenal will be in the late afternoon. Dinner at the hotel or in the town of Fortuna. Overnight in front of Arenal Volcano.

Day 3. lowland tropical rainforest (B, L, D) Start early today go for a nice ride almost to the border with Nicaragua for a boat ride reaching Caño Negro wildlife refuge. At this waterway surrounded partly by farms and by tropical rain forest you will guide beneath overhanging bromeliads, listen for the cry of howler monkeys, and the occasional splashes of caymans slithering into the river. Your guide will be looking out for wildlife and pointing out the interesting relationships of this wonderful ecosystem. A nice lunch by the river to be back in the mid-afternoon in Arenal area.

Day 4. Cloud forest (B, D) Early start from Arenal to Monteverde. The ride along Lake Arenal brings about beautiful landscapes and the road leading to Monteverde too. You will arrive in the town of Santa Elena by noon, and upon arrival your guide will show you the highlights of the region. Learn with your guide about the region and how it was founded. In the late afternoon engage in a nice night tour safari with your guide.

Day 5. Monteverde Reserve and Hanging bridges (B, L, D) Your guide will bring you this morning for a wonderful guided hike in the forest at the hanging bridges, enabling you to see the forest from different levels, from the ground to the treetops and in between. Your guide will bring you to the wonders of nature in this cloud forest. The afternoon is at your leisure or choose to do the canopy tour. There is no better place in the country to do the canopy tour but in Monteverde.

Day 6. to the beach (B, L, D) Leave Monteverde to the beach today. Stop on the way at the Tarcoles River bridge to see the famous crocodiles. Lunch enroute. Free afternoon to enjoy at the beach.

Day 7. at the beach (B, L, D) Still the whole morning to spend at the beach, lunch and then start your way to San Jose. Your guide will wrap up this wonderful days at a farewell dinner tonight.

Day 8. Departure day (B) Airport transfer services

Does not include: international airfare, personal equipment, extras (laundry, phone calls), personal insurance coverage (mandatory for student trips), departure tax US$26 per person to be paid at the airport.
