Day 1. Arrival in Costa Rica. Upon your arrival we will be meeting you at the airport. A nice introduction to the country and your trip on the way to your hotel in San Jose.
Arenal Volcano area, 2 nights.
Day 2. Coffee Plantations / Poas Volcano / to Arenal area / hot springs. Set out today for Poas Volcano National Park**(5),part of the chain of volcanic mountains that cuts the country in half north to south. Walk to the rim of the active crater at 9000ft and take pictures from a safe viewpoint at the edge of the 984-foot-deep, mile-wide crater. Lunch will be enroute to Fortuna. Your welcoming to Arenal will be a nice time to relax in the soothing hot springs. Your accommodations here are in front of Arenal Volcano. Arenal Volcano National Park**(3). (B, L, D)

Day 3. Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge trip. After breakfast depart for a safari tour to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge **(6). At this waterway surrounded by tropical rain forest you glide beneath overhanging bromeliads, listen for the cry of howler monkeys, the soothing vibration of hovering hummingbirds, and the occasional splashes of caimans slithering into the river. Be on the lookout for slaty-tailed trogon and blue morpho butterflies. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the end of your boat ride before returning to your hotel. (B, L)
Monteverde Cloud Forest, 2 nights
Day 4. From Arenal to Monteverde / horse back riding tour. Leave early towards Monteverde. Our transport will bring you around Arenal Lake**(4) on a scenic road learn about why and how some Quaker families decided to settle in Costa Rica fifty years ago. Once having gotten acquainted with Santa Elena and the area of Monteverde**(7) enjoy the beautiful sunset on a nice horse back ride. (B).

Day 5. Guided hike in the Monteverde cloud forest /Sky tram. Great opportunity today to spend the whole day in the cloud forest. In the morning enjoy a guided walk at treetop walkways along eight suspension bridges, also enjoy the sky tram. Enjoy a free afternoon to choose a variety of tours to do on site. (B)

Manuel Antonio, two nights
Day 6. From Monteverde to Manuel Antonio / Tarcoles River boat tour. Time to go to the beach. But before arriving take a boat ride on the Tarcoles River, learn about the mangroves and the abundant american crocodile. (B, L)

Day 7. At the beach. Enjoy a nice guide hike in Manuel Antonio National Park, great chances of seeing wildlife and leisure time at the beach. (B)
Back to San Jose, one night.
Day 8. Plenty time at the beach this morning. Our transport will be picking you up at noon to take you to San Jose. On the way to San Jose today you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes contrasting from the beach to the mountains into central valley. You might want to take advantage of last shopping chances.
